Ketoconazole Flutamide Estradiol Leuprolide
B
The side-effects of ketoconazole are sometimes used to treat non-fungal problems. The decrease in testosterone caused by the drug makes it useful for treating prostate cancer and for preventing post-operative erections[5] following penile surgery. Another use is the suppression of glucocorticoid synthesis, where it is used in the treatment of Cushing's disease.[6] These side effects have also been studied for use in reducing depressive symptoms[7] and drug addiction;[8] however, it has not succeeded in either of these roles.
Mode of action
Leuprolide acts at pituitary GnRH receptors. It down regulates the secretion of gonadotropins luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) leading to a dramatic reduction in estradiol levels.
A 2005 paper suggested it as a treatment for autism,[4] the hypothetical method of action being the now defunct theory that autism is caused by mercury, with the additional assumption that mercury binds irreversibly totestosterone and therefore leuprolide can help cure autism by lowering the testosterone level and thereby the mercury leveL
Flutamide is an oral nonsteroidal antiandrogen drug primarily used to treat prostate cancer. It competes withtestosterone and its powerful metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) for binding to androgen receptors in theprostate gland.
FLUTAMIDE COMPETES WITH TESTOSTERONE RATHER THAN INHIBIT SYNTHESIS!!!!
