There are two major classes of herniation: supratentorial and infratentorial. Supratentorial herniation is of structures normally above the tentorial notch and infratentorial is of structures normally below it.^[4]

2. Central
3. Cingulate (subfalcine)
4. Transcalvarial

• Infratentorial herniation

5. Upward (upward cerebellar or upward transtentorial)
6. Tonsillar (downward cerebellar)
