Dubin-Johnson syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder that causes an increase of conjugated bilirubinwithout elevation of liver enzymes (ALT, AST). This condition is associated with a defect in the ability of hepatocytes to secrete conjugated bilirubin into the bile. It is usually asymptomatic but may be diagnosed in early infancy based on laboratory tests.

此症候群(結合型高膽血紅症 + 肝內有脂褐素沉著)處理此過程中有了障礙，處理一半的膽紅素會積聚在肝臟裡，因此肝臟看起來會變得黑黃，俗稱為「黑肝」
